Some abstracte photograph's by Maarten Gielis

Maarten Gielis's digital paintings

Maarten Gielis is the second son of John Gielis, Everard's brother. That their last name is spelled differently is caused by a small mistake during the civil registration of Everard's birth. Maarten (born in 1954), together with his wife Gonnie, runned a publishing-firm. It was a demanding job for both of them and they did not hesitate to accept when a profitable bid was made on their business.
They bought a mediaevel house and reconstructed and refurbished it with their own hands. (Ref. De Appel nr. 24, June 2002, p 14) After the sale Maarten has turned his hobby: photograph, into an occupation. Using a digital camera he takes pictures of various objects and situations. He paints, so to speak, with his eyes. He detects the grass between stones, the perfect lining-up of tiles and sun-beams, a part of an old wall; he discovers a composition and a combination of colors and makes a photograph.
These photo's have no name, no title and no subscript. Of course they are presented here in a reduced size but he prints many photographs to the size of a painting. Those who paid a visit to his exhibitions were impressed. Some of his pictures are shown below. They can even be ordered at his home address:
